Geometry of the dome
Previous Top Next

The  principles of geometry shows that the dome must be set at a slightly different angle than the telescope’s azimuth. Exact calculations are presented in Chris Lord’s work "SYNCHRONISED DOME ROTATION". ScopeDome Driver program is based on the algorithm presented there.

When configuring the dome you should enter five easy-to-measure values (indicated in the figure in blue).
The first three of them concern to the mount’s location in relation to the geometric center of the dome:

- Scope Position X
- Scope Position Y
- Scope Position Z
- Dome Radius (R)      - your dome’s radius
- GEM Axis Offset (r)   - the distance of the telescope's axis from the mount’s RA axis.
It is indicated as „r” in Chris Lord’s work.
